Lack of Individuality in Fashion

Social media has managed to revolutionize the meaning of fashion. It has become so easy to be influenced by your favorite celebrities. Materialism has influenced the youth to buy expensive clothes.  The youth has felt the need to replicate expensive outfits and luxurious accessories in order to appeal to others. They feel that the more expensive goods they buy, their value as a human goes up. However, there’s no need to buy high end clothes to appeal to others, people will view you for you and not by materialistic items.

Some Examples of Celebrity / Influencer Advertisements:

We have seen Kim Kardashian popularizing biker shorts, high-status celebrities promoting fast fashion brands such as Cardi B’s collaboration with FashionNova, and even influencers like Daisy Marquez promoting cheap brands like Shein.

Of course, it’s okay to buy something you truly like that you might have seen on Instagram, but buying it just because “Kylie Jenner” wore it is a whole other thing. That being said, it’s important to be aware of the true meanings behind these advertisements, they’re just out to get your money.

A lot of young girls see these influencers dressing some type of way and feel obligated to dress like them. This has caused a lack of originality in the fashion of young girls. Everyone is trying to keep up with the trends and forget to come up with their own styles.
